Christine Welch
is on the music faculty at Willamette University where she directs Voce
Femminile and teaches studio voice. Previously she has held positions
at the University of Idaho, Pullman Presbyterian Church and most recently
First Presbyterian Church of Salem as Director of Music Ministries. Her
church ensembles as well as three Willamette choirs including Voce Femminile
were featured in a nationally televised Christmas Eve special, Receive
the Gift, which aired on CBS in December of 2003 and again on the Hallmark
channel in 2004.
Ms. Welch holds vocal performance degrees from Indiana University and
the University of Idaho with minors in conducting and composition, and
is active as a soprano soloist and composer. She has appeared with Basically
Bach of Chicago as well as numerous regional orchestras and choruses,
including the Willamette Falls Orchestra, the Willamette Master Chorus,
the Salem Chamber Orchestra, and the Washington-Idaho Symphony. She has
the distinction of singing in a nationally selected professional chorus
of 65 singers which presented Bach's B-Minor Mass in Carnegie Hall with
maestro Peter Schreier, and will return this January to sing the St. Matthew
Passion under the baton of Helmut Rilling. Her choral compositions are
published by Pavane and distributed by Hal Leonard. She has two children,
Natalie and Michael, who attend West Salem High School.
Voce Femminile is an auditioned ensemble that sings in concerts throughout
the year at Willamette University as well as in the community. The women
rehearse three times weekly and do a variety of literature from historical
classics of virtually every musical period to contemporary arrangements.
Voce Femminile is proud to continue the tradition of nationally recognized
choral excellence that is established in the Willamette University Music
Department. |
