Bryce Schmidt, age 17, is a junior at North Salem High School where he is actively involved in the music program. Bryce began playing the trumpet on his ninth birthday with his father. A year later he began studying with Jaimie Hall, a local music teacher. At age twelve he participated in his first big competition, winning the 2003 International Trumpet Guild Middle School Competition in Dallas, Texas. The following year he returned to defend his title at the International
Trumpet Guild Competition. He then proceeded to win the 2005 Salem Youth
Symphony Concerto Competition as well as The National Trumpet Competitions held in Washington D.C. in 2005 and 2006. In 2006 he received an Emerson Scholarship to attend the Interlochen Summer Camp in Michigan where he participated in the orchestral program. Bryce is now a student of Dave Bamonte who is the assistant principal trumpet with the Oregon Symphony.

In addition to music, Bryce enjoys participating in sports at North Salem High School where he has played varsity soccer and is currently a member of the basketball team. Bryce is also very active in his church, Grace Baptist, where he frequently plays bass in his youth group band alongside his brother Brady, who plays drums.

Bailey Schmidt is 14 years old and in the eighth grade at Houck Middle School. He began playing trombone in the third grade and by the fourth grade was a member of the Advanced Band at Houck. Bailey is a student of Matt Polacek, band director at Judson Middle School. Matt Polacek helped guide Bryce to a second place finishes in the 2004 Wiscarson Concerto Competition and the 2006 Salem Chamber Orchestra Concerto Competition. He has also served as principle trombonist for the Salem Youth Symphony since he was twelve. Last summer, Bailey received a full tuition fellowship to attend the Summer Brass Institute where he studied with members of the San Francisco Symphony. He is currently auditioning to be a finalist at the International Trombone Association Competition which will be held this June in Salt Lake City, Utah and will include competitors up through age eighteen. Bailey has many other interests including: working in the Disabled Learning Center at Houck, playing soccer with the Cascade Futbol Club's premier U-14 team and being a member of the Houck Huskies basketball team. He is also, according to his youth pastor, a very, very
active member of the middle school group at Grace Baptist Church.
