French
Horn ...... Salem Concert Band

As an amature musician specializing in French Horn performance, David
Turner is equally comfortable working as a concert soloist or as an ensemble
musician in groups ranging from small chamber ensembles to symphony orchestras.
His musical experience also includes orchestration and arranging, conducting,
and teaching. His arrangements for woodwind quintet are published by National
Music Publishers. He has studied Horn with Ralph Pyle of the Los Angeles
Philharmonic and the accomplished Hollywood studio horn player James Decker.
His chamber music coach was Mitchell Lurie of the LA Philharmonic. He
has studied orchestration with noted composer Anthony Vazana and band
arranging with William Schaffer. He studied baroque ornamentation with
harpsichord virtuoso Malcolm Hamilton and conducting with Daniel Lewis,
long time musical director of the Pasadena Symphony. He has also participated
in jazz master classes with Woody Herman and Stan Kenton.
David has a Bachelor’s Degree in Music from the University of Redlands
and a Master’s Degree in French Horn Performance from the University
of Southern California. He was founder and horn player for the Aeolian
Chamber Players, principal horn player with the Orange Symphonic Band,
and performed regularly with the Orange Dance Band. He has been a band
director and music teacher for Santa Ana College and Seattle Pacific University.
Currently he is a member of the Salem Concert Band, St. Paul's Festival
Brass, a member of the International Horn Society and performs in various
venues in the Salem area, including the orchestras for the Willamette
Master Chorus and the Festival Chorale Oregon.
